The AVCG industry’s New Year resolutions for 2015

It’s New Year’s Eve, a fresh start for everyone. A new chapter in life waiting to be written, new questions to be asked, to be embraced and loved.

2014 has been a year of mixed emotions for the entire industry. From big hits like Big Hero 6 to movies like Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return that couldn’t perform well at the box office. Indian animation created history with Harry Baweja’s Chaar Sahibzaade grossing more than Rs 38 crore worldwide.

So, while bidding adieu to 2014 and welcoming a brand new year with a lot of hope, courage, excitement and positivity, AnimationXpress.com got in touch with executives from the AVCG industry, who spoke about their New Year resolution and favourite movie/game/comic of 2014.

Akshay Dhar, Founder MetaDesi Comics

“My resolution is to make as many good comics as possible; try and increase the ranks of MetaDesi out there. My favourite movie was Guardians of the Galaxy– maybe the most true to the source and best comic movie ever made. In the comics space, I really liked Umbral by Antony Johnston and Atomic Robo by Brian Clevenger.”

Biren Ghose, Country Head Technicolor India

“My new year resolution is to make sure I stay fighting fit. Big Hero 6 and Penguins of Madagascar are the two movies which I enjoyed the most this year.”

Diptoman Mukherjee, Founder Zombie Indies House

I don’t like to put out absolute resolutions, so my new year’s resolution would be to experiment with different genres as much as I can as a game designer, and get into 3D game design as well. My favourite game for 2014 is undoubtedly Monument Valley. Transistor and Nidhogg on other hand are close competitors.”

Jesh Krishna Murthy, Founder Anibrain

“To work towards creating the happiest organisation. We worked on Roar- Tigers of the Sundarbans and that was also my favourite movie of the year.”

Kavitha Jaubin, Cluster Head Sun TV Network kids channels

“My resolution is to complete all those incomplete resolutions that have been pending from long- to eat healthy, spend quality time with family and to learn something new every day. How to Train your Dragon 2 and Penguins of Madagascar were my favourites from 2014.”

Kinshuk Sunil, Founder Hashtash Studios

“I don’t have any specific new year resolution. I just want to make good games that people find fun to play and games that can stick in their hearts as fond memories. Lone Wolf, Crossy Roads are my favourite games from the year.”

Rajini Thindiath, Editor Tinkle

“My resolution is to write more fiction stories as I like fantasies. I already wrote the first draft earlier this year and now I will be re-writing that to bring back the fantasy genre. Big Hero 6 stole my heart in 2014.”

Ram Mohan, Father of Indian Animation

“I have more or less retired now, so my resolution is to keep myself busy. Now my plan is to make short 4 or 5 minutes long movies and work with my old colleagues and friends, if any new comer wants to join in, they are most welcome. Despicable Me has been my favourite animation movie so far.”

Sanchit Goel, Founder PepperScript

“I am looking to get or extract more of everything including myself and make maximum conversions of ideas and plans. I feel How to train your Dragon 2, was very well made and would have been everyone’s favourite this year.”

Shilpa Ranade, Animation Filmmaker

“My resolution is to go back to school and restart the learning processes again to renew and to add to what I already know. This year, my favourite movie was Jung Yu Mi’s Dust Kid.

Vaibhav Chavan, Founder UnderDogs Studios

“My New Year’s resolution is 1920 x 1080 better than my earlier one which was 1024 x 768?. And Crossy Road game is by far my best of 2014.”
