As a mark of respect for Dilip Kumar, producer – director Subhash Ghai has instituted a scholarship in his name. It is to encourage aspiring talented youth to apply to study at Whistling Woods International (WWI).
The scholarship will allow students to receive two years of training free of cost. Said WWI chairman Subhash Ghai, “Dilip sahib taught me to bring dignity to this profession of cinema and to bring a change in the Indian cinema culture by setting up a creative campus, where we produce innovating skills and great story tellers. This thought changed my life and I put all my health and wealth in setting up Whistling Woods, which is a globally renowned brand today, for the quality education it provides to 600 students each year. So this is the legend behind Whistling Woods and I am glad that my daughter, Meghna, came up with the idea to institute a scholarship after Dilip Kumar.”
Dilip Kumar has been a big source of inspiration to Ghai and encouraged him to set up this international institute in filmmaking, communication and media arts. Incidentally Dilip Kumar had inaugurated WWI in 2006 with 80 students.
WWI president Meghna Ghai Puri said, “We have been providing several scholarships over the last five years at the institute on the basis of need and merit. However, this is the first time we have named a scholarship after a personality, and who better than a veteran like Dilip saab for this.”
