Star Wars:The Force Awakens, The Revenant, The Good Dinosaur and Game of Thrones have created a glorious mark in the 14th annual Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards. Out of the several nominees chosen in 23 categories, these four features have bagged the highest number of awards in various categories.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens topped the feature competition winning four awards in categories like Outstanding VFX in a Photoreal feature, Outstanding models, Created environments and Virtual cinematography.
The Revenant was second in the race with three trophies in the categories for Best supporting VFX, Outstanding animated performance for the ferocious bear, Best compositing for its exemplary bear attack.
The Good Dinosaur won the most awards in the animated feature competition with three awards for Outstanding VFX, Animated Performance for Spot and Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Feature for creation of the Farm.
While in the television nominations, Game of Thrones won four awards in categories including Outstanding VFX in a Photoreal episode, Created environment, Compositing and Effects simulation.
VES is known for its unique aspect of predicting the winners of Oscars for the winners of VES’ top film award have gone on to score the Visual Effects Oscar nine out of 14 times till date. But this time, the winners of VES Awards convey a different prediction rather than the probable Oscar winners like Mad Max: Fury Road and Inside Out.
In addition, the auspicious evening of 14th annual VES Awards was honoured by the veteran mastermind Ridley Scott being presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Syd Mead with the Visionary Award.
The 14th VES Awards took place on 2 February 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and like every year it recognised, honoured and appreciated the most outstanding visual effects work of the year and the artists who created them.
