Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated movie features different incarnations of the web-slinging vigilante from multiple universes. New footage features the debut of three new spider-people. Well, two people and a pig. The three new versions of everyone’s favourite Marvel hero are Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Spider-Girl (Kimiko Glenn) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney).
For the uninitiated, Noir Spidey is from a universe set in the Great Depression and is well dark, Spider-Girl (also known as Penny Parker) is spunky and Spider-Ham has a style of his own. Far from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the new movie is set in Spider-verse where Miles discovers limitless possibilities with more than one donning the Spider-Man mask.
The first main trailer depicted the movie’s unique comic book-inspired animation, an amalgamation of computer animation and traditional hand-drawn techniques inspired by the work of Miles Morales’s co-creator Sara Pichelli.
It also introduced the older version of Peter Parker, who becomes a mentor to Miles as well as another character named Spider-Gwen.
The most recent trailer, released at the start of October, hinted at the danger that Miles has to face and overcome, with an appearance from Kingpin and reference to a collider that could destroy Miles’s hometown of Brooklyn. Fortunately, he’s got more than enough Spider-Men to back him up.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse rolls up in theatres on 14 December 2018.
