Marvel’s much awaited Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped a second official trailer to give more insights into the upcoming animation flick. And to start off, we’re given a quick overview of the web-slinger’s past events as the masked crusador that are nothing but an animated version of Toby Maguire’s Spiderman movies.
Some iconic scenes such as halting the speeding train, car crashing through the hotel windows and most importantly the overhead kiss, are all revisited graphically as Spider-Man recounts “I saved the city, then I fell in love, then I saved the city. Again, and again, and again”. Oh, and there’s also a fleeting vision of Doctor Octopus’ sinister tentacles, or mechanical arms, whichever way you slice it.
But moving forward, we see Spider-Man, named Miles Morales rather than the comic book name Peter Parker, goes about his life as a schoolboy whilst also hopping from one skyscraper to another as the friendly neighbourhood. But soon, a laboratory mishap sees him drifted to another dimension where there are more web-crawlers like him. In fact, the trailers suggest there are at least six doppelgangers, including Gwen Stacy’s Ghost-Spider character.
However, the sextuplet of heroes must come together to fight the Kingpin aka Wilson Fisk that you may’ve heard of from the Daredevil series. Also, there’s Scorpio as well as the devilish Green Goblin trying to wreak havoc across the dimensions.
The animation, once again, is straight out of the top drawer, giving the movie a bright, colourful and vibrant visual appeal that’s surely going to attract more viewers to the theatres. Sony Pictures Animation had in fact, hired 140 animators for the project, the largest number they’ve ever accrued for a film.
Based on Marvel Comics, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse features a starry voice cast of Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali and Liev Schreiber etc, and spins its way into cinemas on 14 December 2018.
