Quite a few mothers are thankful to this cartoon character for popularising spinach as a healthy delicacy among youngsters. We are certain everyone reading this article must have guessed who we are talking about; the super-duper spinach eating sailor – Popeye.
Gennadiy Borisovich Tartakovsky, who helmed cartoon, projects like Dexter’s Laboratory, Hotel Transylvania, Samurai Jack and Powerpuff Girls will be soon directing the Popeye 3D animation movie. Tartakovsky, has also been a student of a Popeye animator from the 40’s, and is very excited with the announcement of the revival of the Sailor-man.
The upcoming Popeye movie will be a 3D adaptation of the classic cartoon franchise. In the video (revealed by Sony), director Tartakovsky has mentioned that the CGI-animated test footage is neither a clip nor a trailer. The scene is not in the actual movie, but shows what they want to do with their forthcoming animation movie.
Before the actual CGI-footage test, the video shows first behind-the-scene clips of Tartakovsky while working on the adaptation of the renowned cartoon. Along with this he explains why he was destined to make the film.
Surprisingly, Popeye has no pipe and tattoos in the test video. Moreover, the video focuses on Popeye’s fighting scene with Bluto to save Olive Oyl. Also, temporary voices have been used for the following footage.
The cast hasn’t been announced yet and the script is still in the works. Meanwhile, Slash Film said that Tartakovsky wants the new version of the classical movie to focus on the original story and include classic characters like Bluto, the Sea Hag, Wimpy, Olive Oyl, Popeye’s dad and Eugene the Jeep.
The Popeye movie’s release date has been rumoured to be sometime in 2016.
