Shigeru Miyamoto forays into films with Pikmin Short Movies

Iconic game developer Shigeru Miyamoto, who created games like Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legends of Zelda and Pikmin among others, is venturing into film production.

Miyamoto unveiled the ‘Pikmin Short Movies’ at Tokya International Film Festival. The 3D animated movie is based on the game series by the same name.

Miyamoto for years was against the idea of making films with Nintendo characters but opened up to the idea when he saw technological advancements in filmmaking. He although stated he hasn’t moved away from games and still belongs to the gaming industry.

“I haven’t moved over. But as computer graphics have gotten better, I started to feel that it’s something that I could get involved with. Making films in the past was something that was made with a completely different skill set but now I feel that it’s rather similar,” said Miyamoto.

Miyamoto expressed that the films are aimed at expanding the Pikmin universe and giving life to series characters.

“More than making it as a film to put in theaters, I made it as a film to present the footage that was necessary in the game,” he said.
