Saudi Arabia’s Team Falcons have been crowned the first ever Club Champions at 2024 Esports World Cup (EWC), which is taking place at Boulevard Riyadh City.
This is the first edition of EWC – an annual international esports tournament series – which is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 3 July to 25 August. EWC features tournaments for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, StarCraft 2, EA Sports FC 24 and Tekken 8.
EWC’s Club Championship decides the best Club in the world from the dozens competing at the tournament. This competition offered a prize of US$7 million to the winner, Team Falcons, which earned 4435 points. The team’s closest opponents, Netherlands’ Team Liquid fell short in the Tekken 8 tournament, ending with 2545 points.
For a team to participate in Club Championship, the esports teams need to be in the top eight in at least two competitions. To win the title, a team needs to reach first place in at least one competition to be eligible to win the championship. The team also needs to have the most points while meeting the above requirement.
The Club Championship was followed by another set of tournaments from EWC at the SEF Arena on Sunday where Portuguese-based player João “jafonso” Vasconcelos won the EA Sports FC 24 grand finale, while USA’s Atlanta Faze won the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 grand finale and France’s Clément “Clem” Desplanches secured the win for the StarCraft 2 grand finale.
The tournament will conclude on 25 August with a closing ceremony where Team Falcons will be crowned as the 2024 EWC Club Champions.
EWC is developed as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a government initiative launched by the Kingdom led by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.
