Russian show ‘Masha and the Bear’ wins Kidscreen Award 2015

A popular animated TV series created in Russia Masha and the Bear (originally Masha I Medved) has become the country’s first show to pick up an award at the Kidscreen Award 2015 that was conducted last month.

Masha and the Bear won for best animation in the ‘creative talent’ category. “This is practically the first time that a Russian animation series has been recognised at an international professional level,” producer Dmitry Loveiko told the Izvestia daily on Tuesday.

The show narrates the story of a mischievous girl and an anthropomorphic bear who is a retired circus performer. The bear tries to keep Masha out of trouble but ends up falling for her mischievous ways. Originally produced in Russia, 48 episodes have been doled out as of now. On YouTube, an English version of Masha and the Bear has recently been released.

The computer- animated series of approximately seven minutes per episode has been created by Andrei Dobrunov, Oleg Kuzovkov and Dmitry Loveiko of Animaccord Studios and was first aired in 2009.

The rights for the series have been taken by broadcasters such as NBC Universal, France Television and Cartoon Network.
