Rocket League gets season 2 with new divisions and ranked play

Driving meets Football game Rocket League is all set for a season two and the update is all set to release in February.

Psyonix have put down detailed information of all the important stuff in a new post on the game’s Steam page. Here’s a quick look at it:

The ranked play has been renamed under the ‘Competitive Matchmaking’ and will have a separate menu system which will have a separate menu differentiating itself from casual matchmaking. Rank Points from season one will be out and all Divisions are based on skill rating to remove the confusion of two points systems. The new ranking system will not include the numeric score that was previously attached to your rank – Rookie, Semi-Pro, Expert, Master, and Legend and so on.

This time around one does not have to start from the bottom of the group to reach all the way top, instead placement matches will be played where players can be ranked and placed accordingly. Ten placement matches  will be played to determine their Skill Division. And if you have exhausted hours to achieve the gold and platinum rankings, don’t worry the developers will also take that into consideration.

Ten divisions from season one (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum – first three having three tiers each) will be replaced by the 12 new ones and will be labeled differently too.

Also, there is no cap on the amount of number of players allowed into the top division. Psyonix has removed the cap for season two. So, if you are good enough you will be part of the top division if you deserve it.

One does not have to worry about the promotion and demotion system in season two. The more consistent you are the better are your chances of moving up the next division. And losing one or two games in the higher division won’t demote you immediately.
