Netflix has picked up the one-hour drama, Sweet Tooth from Team Downey, the production company founded by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Jim Mickle (Hap and Leonard, In the Shadow of the Moon, Cold In July) and Beth Schwartz (Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) will serve as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers of the eight-episode series. Mickel will also direct. Team Downey’s Evan Moore will serve as producer.
Sweet Tooth is a comic book limited series that was written and drawn by Jeff Lemire and published by DC Comics’ Vertigo. It has been described as ‘Mad Max meets Bambi’ and is centered around Gus, a young boy with deer features, who leaves his forest home to discover the outer world. He joins a ragtag family of humans and animal-children hybrids like himself in search of answers about this new world and the mystery behind his hybrid origins.
The series stars Christian Convery (Beautiful Boy, Tiger Rising, Playing With Fire), Nonso Anozie (The Laundromat, Zoo, Game of Thrones), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables [TV series], Victoria & Abdul, The Big Sick) and Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Saturday Night Live), with James Brolin (Life in Pieces, Amityville Horror, Westworld) as the voice of the narrator.
