Anurag Khurana, the former Riot games country manager has joined Reliance Jio as esports head, reportedly. It seems, with the new acquisition, Reliance Jio plans to join the bandwagon of esports in the country.
Earlier this year he had moved on from the post of country manager (India) of Riot Games India. He took to social media to announce his departure from the company.
After months of assumptions that Reliance Jio is entering into esports; finally, with the placement of Anurag Khurana, it is confirmed that the company has been eyeing the esports industry and has been planning to invest in the gaming industry for a long time.
Not only that, Khurana again took to social media to inform the industry on the same as he changed his LinkedIn profile as ‘Head of esports at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd’.
It has still not been cemented by the company on what they plan to do in the segment, however with the recent boom of esports in the country, Reliance Jio might be looking to create IPs, in the form of tournaments or leagues, which seems like the perfect time given the current trends and prospects of the industry.
Khurana was unavailable for immediate comments on the plans going forward.
