Enabling smooth and responsive remote access technology to access a computer and its power from anywhere, anytime, on any device, French company Reemo (Reemo.io) is becoming the go-to solution for game developers, video editors, 2D, 3D, VFX studios, and so on. This technology comes with all the necessary tools for administrators to manage accounts, control permissions and centralise command across an entire remote organisation.

At the prestigious Annecy Festival’s MIFA market, AnimationXpress interacted with Reemo sales and partnership VP Alexandre Henneuse. He explained how the company brings workstations, desktops and apps directly into one’s browser. “We built a remote desktop technology that displays in real-time, any type of environment—Linux, Windows, Mac OS—directly into a computer at 60 FPS and 4K resolution.”

When asked about their expansion beyond European markets, Henneuse shared that Reemo initially entered the space through the animation industry. With animation studios in over 30 countries, they have a broad customer base from the US to South America, and from India to China.

Now the team is expanding its targets to other verticals and products. Reemo’s technology goes beyond just the remote desktop protocol. “We believe that the future of virtual machines lies in containerisation. Today, our platform of containers allows access to any application without needing a virtualisation application, Windows license, or extensive management of virtual machines, which can be costly,” said Henneuse.

Understanding containerisation and virtualisation

Virtualisation involves creating virtual versions of physical hardware using software. It allows multiple virtual machines (VMs) to run on a single physical machine, each with its own operating system and applications. This enables better utilisation of hardware resources but often comes with high costs and complexity, particularly in managing multiple VMs and licences.

Containerisation, on the other hand, packages an application and its dependencies into a container that can run on any computing environment. Containers share the host system’s operating system but are isolated from each other, providing a lightweight and efficient solution. This reduces the overhead associated with virtual machines and allows for more streamlined deployment and management.

According to Henneuse, industries such as broadcasting, engineering and military telecommunication are transitioning from the virtual machine ecosystems to container ecosystem. They are using this technology for enhanced security, as the browser-based access ensures that nothing can reach the user’s computer or network, making it a safe solution.

Elaborating on the future of remote technology and virtual machines, he pointed out that the future of the studios is going into the cloud for sure. Henneuse further added, “But I’m not sure that virtual machines are gonna be the right technology system due to high costs of GPUs and Windows server licensing. The next step in virtualisation is containerisation, which is more cost-effective and efficient.”

Reemo is poised to transform the landscape of remote access technology, making it more accessible, secure, and efficient for creative professionals worldwide.
