It seems that the online streaming services which are on the rise given the advent of digital media have already started running into problems.
Sony has announced that it will be dropping all channels of Viacom from their online streaming service, PlayStation Vue. Some of the channels that will no longer be available for the users of PlayStation Vue are CMT channels, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV channels, Nickelodeon channels, Spike, Tr3s, TV Land, VH1 and more.
The development will come into effect on 11 November, 12:01 ET, PlayStation Vue, head, Dwayne Benefield said in a blog post. “As part of our ongoing evaluation of the PlayStation Vue offering, we have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans” read an excerpt from the post.
Although it is clear that such an abrupt announcement will disappoint the users, but Sony tried to make it up with some good news as well. The company, in the same blog post also announced that they will be adding channels like BBC America, Vice, NBA TV and more to PlayStation Vue’s kitty.
PlayStation Vue’s services came into some markets of the USA in 2015 and it was completely launched in March this year. Reportedly, it has crossed the 100,000 mark while simultaneously expanding its support for non-PlayStation devices like Android TV, Roku, Mac and Windows. Also, HBO and Cinemax recently ventured into PlayStation Vue too.
