PepperScript Comics inks Chennaiyin FC

Started out with a different perspective and newer approach, PepperScript has been doing a phenomenal job in bringing out comics catering to the corporate industry. Having successfully delivered two comics back to back, SAB ke comics and Remix (Cartoon Network), PepperScript has now partnered with Chennaiyin FC to give the team a fresh look.

Chennaiyin FC is one of the teams in Hero Indian Super League (ISL), which is India’s unrivaled football championship and is co-promoted by IMG-Reliance, Star India and supported by All India Football Federation (AIFF). ISL has eight franchises that are based out of Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. The Chennaiyin FC team is co-owned by Vita Dani, Abhishek Bachchan and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Though the team had qualified for the semis in season one, the team lost to Kerala Blasters and to boost its players morale, Chennaiyin FC partnered with PepperScript Comics to get a comic based on them and the team.

We got in touch with PepperScript’s CEO and founder, Sanchit Goel to know more about this unique and probably the first ever comic association with ISL.

“PepperScript Comics was started with an ideology to create content which was unique and cater to an audience which was still unaware of comic versatility. We followed up with Chennaiyin FC for sometime but being a very unique marketing strategy and the league still being in its second season, it was a difficult call to make for Chennaiyin FC officials. However, the idea was vividly discussed and the association happened in September 2015,” said Sanchit.

The comic consists of 12 pages and the comic development team comprises of 6 superbly talented individuals who work together to create this overwhelming comic; and 2 other individuals Shreya and Tushar who have designed the graphics of the layout for the book.

The Chennaiyin FC comic is an exclusive product for the team and its fans and is available only in Chennai at the Marina Arena, JLN Stadium and is not for sale. The management at Chennaiyin FC has launched the comics exclusively for is team support and fan engagement. The comic is distributed is also shared with celebrated guests and VIPs.

“This is absolutely the first time a comic book has made it to a premier league in India, in such a grand fashion, and that too ISL, which is only in its second major season,” beamed Sanchit. He further spoke about the kind of reception the comic received, “The comics have been received very well. The readers, fans and guests have loved them. The feedback is great and truly positive.#LetsFootball!”

Lastly we asked him about which business model proves to be profitable; working on original IPs or commissioned brands/products, to which he explained, “Anything that is well executed, and created with a genuine desire to empower the brand or associated motive will prove to be successful. A business model can never be all money and no fame, sometimes the people/IPs you work with bring about a structured change in your methodology leaving you with teachings that are meant for the long run, the profits will always get consumed. This project was not on a very big scale as it was risky call for Chennaiyin FC but we truly believe that we have done justice to the idea.”
