The production and distribution company Entertainment One is one happy company which is reaping sweet rewards from its intellectual property Peppa Pig, the British-made children’s television series about a family of pigs.
The company revealed in its full-year results that Peppa Pig related sales have crossed the magical figure of $1 billion worldwide last year. The pink pig is a pre-school phenomenon in the world said Entertainment One.
That insane popularity of the animation helped Entertainment One more than double pre-tax profit to $68.74 million, despite revenue dipping 5 per cent to $1.22 billion.
The TV segment of Entertainment One has shown an upward trend with respect to feature films which is reflective in its series of Peppa Pig; for which it owns half the rights.
The merchandising and licensing have helped Entertainment One take the popularity of Peppa Pig to new heights leading to it having ended the year with over 600 deals to its name.
With highs, the company had lows with a poor year for film. Revenue at its movie distribution business took a hit by 13 per cent to $908.25 million.
Entertainment One is working on the new Steve Jobs biopic and said it was hoping for a turnaround this year.
