The miniseries that went on to bag the Emmy Award, Over the Garden Wall that’s been created by Patrick McHale is set to return but this time not on television but as a comic series.
Over The Garden Wall debuted back in 2014 on Cartoon Network and tells the story of two brothers, Wirt and Greg, who find themselves lost in a mysterious woods and with the help of a wise old Woodsman and a foul-tempered bluebird named Beatrice, Wirt and Greg must travel across this strange land in hope of finding their way home.
Owing to the success of the miniseries, previously it got a one shot comic book adaptation which was produced by KaBoom!, an imprint of BOOM! Studios and was supervised by McHale and was produced as an oversized special. The comic was illustrated by Jim Campbell, a writer/storyboard artist on the television series.
In an earlier interview with Patrick McHale, when asked about future plans for the series, he had mentioned, “I don’t think I have any more story to tell about Wirt and Greg, but maybe I can make something similar at some point.”
And now, KaBOOM!, is once again coming up Over The Garden Wall comic sans Patrick McHale. It will be written by Jim Campbell (Star Wars, The Krachmacher), and show writer Amalia Levari, with art by Campbell and Cara McGee.
Each issue of the series will contain two original stories wherein the first issue will explore the early days of the Unknown through Anna, the daughter of a Woodsman who is learning how to survive in the woods by herself. It also features story about Wirt and Greg having escaped the Unknown (or maybe not), and at night, Greg returning to Dreamland for more adventures.
The comic is set to launch in April.
