‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ game maker Glu Mobile has signed ‘Oops I Did Again!’ hitmaker Britney Spears for a 5-year deal to make a celebrity game on the lines of other Glu Mobile games.
As the recent ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ has been witnessing a continuous decline, Glu is trying to get in more celebrities to ramp up the mobile screens and add glamour and glitz to the players’ virtual life. ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ has been a big money generator for Glu with the game generating more than $43 million within the first three months of game launch. Glu is expecting similar figures with the Britney venture as well.
Founded in 2001, Glu is headquartered in San Francisco, with major US offices outside Seattle and in Long Beach, and international offices in Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea and Russia. Chinese Internet Corporation – Tencent, recently bought a 14.6 per cent stake in Glu for $126 million, valuing the enterprise at around $863 million.
“I am thrilled to add Grammy Award-winning legend Britney Spears to Glu’s developing list of partners as we continue to expand our celebrity gaming platform,” stated Glu CEO Niccolo de Masi.
Britney’s five-year licensing deal isn’t the only celebrity game that is coming out Glu. Katy Perry too has been signed for a mobile game and more celebrities are likely to follow. Glu expects to launch the game in the first half of 2016.
Kardashian is rumored to be pocketing up to 45 per cent of the $74.3 million in sales so far of the Android and iOS app produced in 2014 and the $21.3 million earned through the initially quarter of 2015.
“We anticipate the title resonating tremendously with Britney’ almost 90 million multigenerational social followers around the globe,” Niccolo ended.
