VFX is a very important tool in today’s day and age and one of the most used software or tool is Nuke from the house of The Foundry. Well, in a very novel initiative the company is holding a nationwide contest christened ‘Nuker Of The Year’, which is open to students as well as professionals in India.
Participants will need to submit a web link to a shot they have worked on including a VFX breakdown and the Nuke node graph (with postage stamps turned on) edited in video format by 5 November 2014.
Submissions will need to be in the format of a web link. The video needs to be uploaded to Vimeo, YouTube or any other similar third party video hosting platform. Participants have the right to keep their work private. In this case they will need to share login details with the organisers and clearly state these on their submission form. Videos will need to be HD resolution 1920×1080.
All the submissions will need to be anonymous. Entries must nominate which category they are going for, and if it is a student entry, it must provide proof of age or proof of current course. Winners will be announced during The Foundry India’s events in November and their work will be presented on stage.
The three categories that are available for entries are ‘Nuker of the Year’; ‘Student Nuker of the Year’ (must be in full time education or under the age of 22); and finally Nuke team of the year (no more than 5 in a “team”).
The winners grant ARK Info and The Foundry first right to publish their submitted work in any media. All artwork that is entered by the deadline is final; it cannot be removed or changed after this point. The judges have sole discretion in the interpretation and enforcement of rules, including but not limited to suspension of categories and entrants.
The contest has been running for over three weeks already and begun from 8 October and will culminate on 5 November. The jury consists of renowned names from the VFX industry namely: Jordan Thistlewood – Head of Creative Specialist at The Foundry; Amit Sharma – Head of Compositing at MPC Bangalore and Kyle McCulloch – Visual Effects Supervisor at Framestore.
The prize booty includes: Perpetual Production Collective and V-Ray for NUKE License for Nuker of the year; 1 year Production Collective + Interview for internship at MPC Bangalore for Student NOTY and Up to 5 x 1 year Production Collectives + an expert afternoon, dinner and drinks coinciding with the November events for Nuker team of the year category.
