Nintendo plans to build theme park at Japan’s Universal Studios

Nintendo, the Japanese video game giant, plans to build a $350 million theme park at Japan in time for the Tokyo Olympics. Having a Super Mario focus, the world’s first theme park based on Nintendo games is due to be set at Universal Studios Japan.

The theme park will be at Universal’s Japan site in Osaka, 300 miles from Tokyo, and is due to be completed by 2020. If the work hits the estimated time and is completed in the due time frame, it may just be in line for the start of the Tokyo Olympics in the Japanese capital.

Nintendo parkAccording to Sankei News, 40 billion yen ($350 million) has been being invested into the project. The Nintendo themed park is regarded on the paper notes as a similar large-scale investment to the one that was put into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park that opened a few years ago.

The green indicates the current space that Universal Studios Japan takes up, while the red indicates the space that the upcoming Nintendo area will occupy. It’s currently used as an event space in the park, and is located on the left-side of the entrance gate, but it seems there are bigger plans in store for the space.

What exactly will appear in the Nintendo Universal attraction isn’t clear yet, but Mario will likely play a big part.
