The Walt Disney Company will see a new face in its team as Nike CEO Mike Parker joins its board of directors. With Parker coming in the team, Disney’s board of directors will sum up to a total number of 12 members.
Parker began his journey at the sports giant Nike in 1979 as a footwear designer. Encompassing his way through shoe design and engineering, Mike gradually ventured into consumer product marketing and operation.
Expanding and spreading his creativity and leadership quality, Mike served as the Vice President of global footwear and co-President of the Nike brand. In January 2006, he was appointed as the chief executive officer of Nike and was known to have surpassed a major leap from a mediocre position to a highly honourable position in the renowned firm.
Disney, CEO, Bob Iger said, “As CEO of Nike, Mark is widely recognised for driving the stellar growth of an industry-leading brand. His keen insight into consumers and his broad experience in international markets make him a great fit for the Disney Board.”
Being the CEO, Parker has represented Nike across the globe and is now optimistic to be a part of the Disney board as it has added to his exposure to entertainment. He said, “Disney has delivered truly elevated consumer experiences globally, inspiring generations with creativity and vision. I look forward to working with this team as the company continues to set its sights on the future.
Parker may also be seen contesting for election along with other directors at Disney’s annual shareholder’s meeting on 3 March 2016 at Chicago.
