The National Film Board (NFB) of Canada has ventured into the digital space as it announced the launch of a new subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service powered by Vimeo. Right form today, film lovers will be able to discover and view the newest and best NFB-produced documentary and animated shorts anytime online.
The audience can access the films on demand 24X7 on their computer, mobile devices, tablets or smart TVs. To boost the experience and gain more viewers, 14 recent NFB films that were highly acclaimed at various festival screenings will be available as a part of the first selection. Among these, five films are being available online for the first time.
Subscribers will be able to view the online premieres of Cordell Barker’s If I Was God…, Michèle Cournoyer’s Soif, Claude Cloutier’s Carface, and Sarah Van Den Boom’s In Deep Waters; all of which were screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The other films include Randall Okita’s The Weatherman and the Shadowboxer, Bruce Alcock’s Impromptu, Chris Landreth’s Subconscious Password, Felix Dufour-Laperriere’s The Day Is Listening, Hart Snider’s The Basketball Game, Andrea Dorfman’s Big Mouth, Jill Sharpe’s Bone Wind Fire, Mike Maryniuk’s Home Cooked Music, Nicola Lemay and Janice Nadeau’s No Fish Where to Go and Tali’s Bus Story.
For unlimited viewing, users can avail of a subscription of $4.99 per month. Films will also be available for purchase priced individually at $1.99 for a streaming rental or $3.99 for download-to-own. The selection will be expanded periodically, with three new films added every two weeks.
In order to gain more attraction, one of the newly added films will always be available for free streaming, so film fans can discover some of the best cinema Canada has to offer. The service is available in French and English.
