To strengthen its original films business in the country, Netflix India has appointed Zee Studios head producer Abhishek Vyas to its Indian originals team. According to industry sources, Vyas has joined the streaming giant today, 6 May.
In his new role, Vyas will directly report to Netflix India original film director Aashish Singh and closely work with directors, producers, writers and external creative team for new acquisitions and content development of projects.
At ZEE Studios, he was responsible for creative development and production of Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi, Good Newz and developed multiple projects including Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and others. He joined ZEE Studios in January 2018.
With over 10 years of work experience, Vyas started his career with CNBC TV18 in the marketing department for two years. In 2011, he also worked at a marketing role at Star India, between December 2011 to April 2015, and handled functions relating to brand management, show marketing, consumer research, show marketing, client servicing and media planning and buying. He was also responsible for business development and the creation of intellectual properties.
In 2015, he joined Eros International as the senior producer and was responsible for analysing scripts, pre-production, brand management, concept research and testing, production and budgeting of films, running a writers lab for new film concepts, film marketing, liasoning with the film crew (writers, directors and actors) and managing projects from scripting to release.
Being a very crucial market, Netflix has increased its focus and investments in India. The streaming colossal is looking to bring in more homegrown content to hold its strong ground in the country. Thus it has roped in a number of local talents to strengthen its consumer understanding.
