Designed and directed in-house through MPC Creative, the CG superhero is a new mascot for toothpaste brand Aquafresh, gallantly defending teeth against cavities and sugar.
Conceived by TBWA and directed by Jake Mengers through MPC Creative, a range of variations for the superhero’s look and feel were explored in pre production. Captain Aquafresh is a fallible character, with his own unique charms.
The team used a live action actor to capture facial movements and expressions, these nuances were then incorporated into the 3D animation to develop the mascots character.
CG Supervisor Fabian Frank said, “The biggest challenge was to transfer the superheroes personality from paper into a 3D world. Using the live action reference was our starting point here, before modeling him in a number of poses. His suit is spandex, and to create it we studied a number of real references- ordering some questionable outfits online. This kind of material has a very specific surface quality and it involved R&D to nail the look.”
