Mechamato has created history by being the first animation series outside of Japan to win the prestigious ‘Anime Fan Award’ at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival 2023. It is produced by Malaysia-based entertainment and experience company Monsta.
The series qualified for the award after making its mark on Cartoon Network Japan and Netflix Japan last year. It is a feat to receive recognition from Japan – a country known for its powerful animation industry. Previously, the ‘Anime Fan Award’ has been won by iconic titles such as Idolish Seven in 2021 and 2022, Uta no Prince-sama in 2020, and Yuri!!! On ICE in 2018 and 2017.
Ayumu Murase, the voice behind popular characters such as Hinata in Haikyuu!, Venti in Genshin Impact, Kage in Ousama Ranking —landed a role as the main hero – Amato – in the Japanese version of Mechamato. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who is known for voicing characters such as Inosuke in Demon Slayer, Xiao in Genshin Impact, Kirito in Sword Art Online —plays the voice for MechaBot, Amato’s robot friend.
The show has been receiving overwhelming support from fans around the world, especially in Southeast Asia and Japan. Monsta will try to bring the animated series to their local TV stations and to premier the movie in Japanese cinemas as well within this year.
