Electronic Arts signed a deal with Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures to make multiple game titles around the cute yellow creatures – Minions from the Despicable Me franchise as well as other characters that will come from the studio in their future projects.
The first game from this deal will be Minions Paradise – where one plays as a new Minion Phil who will lead a group of Minions to create a world of their dreams. The proposed game will release just in time near the movie that will out this July.
“Phil leads the Minions to create the world of their dreams after finding themselves shipwrecked on a tropical island. Players will help the Minions build, craft, and design their ultimate tropical playground, complete with whirling waterslides, electric eel tanks, firefly trees, and of course, plenty of bananas,” read EA’s game description.
EA is also getting help from Illumination’s writers, directors, artists and animators who are working with EA’s internal development teams to develop games based on various projects.
Illumination founder and CEO, Chris Meledandri added: “We want to bring the same level of care and creativity to these games that we bring to our films,” leading to the introduction in Minions Paradise of a brand-new Minion character, Phil. “Minions Paradise is a great way to start our new partnership with EA, and we look forward to sharing the game with fans all over the world this summer,” he said.
EA is making big advances with its mobile division developing more and more games which have a far better reach these days. Previously too the company developed The Simpsons: Tapped Out which generated more than$100 million in revenue. Also, its other major franchises like FIFA and NFS have found place in the mobile space.
