Matt Reeves’ standalone Batman universe has been designated as Batman Epic Crime Saga.
According to reports, The Batman director Reeves and producer Dylan Clark plan to launch a slate of movies and shows that stem from 2022’s Batman standalone reboot starring Robert Pattinson.
The first among these spin offs is Colin Farell-starrer The Penguin, which tells the story of Ozz Cob, a crime mob boss in Gotham City, and will be out on HBO’s Max streaming service. The series is set one week after the events of The Batman and will lead into its sequel.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Reeves has discarded other spin-off projects such as a Gotham City Police Department series and an Arkham Asylum series as HBO suggested him to focus on “marquee characters” instead. Elements of the now canceled Gotham City Police Department series will be integrated into The Penguin.
As previously reported, Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga will be separate from James Gunn’s DC Universe projects like the upcoming Superman film and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Todd Phillips’ Joker series as well.
