Marvel Comics unveils new details for fourth issue of its horror universe

Marvel Comics is taking its darkest heroes deeper into the night, with three new issues of its Midnight line comic book set to unleash fresh horrors in January 2027.

Unveiled at New York Comic Con 2026, the covers and story details for Midnight Spider-Man #4, Midnight Fantastic Four #4 and Midnight X-Men #4 offer a glimpse into Marvel’s terrifying new universe, where familiar heroes face a chilling makeover.

The reveals came during the Marvel Comics: The Midnight Hour panel, featuring writers Jonathan Hickman (Midnight X-Men), Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Midnight Spider-Man) and Benjamin Percy (Midnight Fantastic Four). Executive editor Dan Buckley, editor Jordan D. White, assistant editor Kaeden McGahey and editor-in-chief Stephen Wacker also joined the panel to tease what lies ahead.

Launched this week, the Midnight line puts Marvel’s iconic characters through a darker lens, with more mutants, a human being who naturally possesses a genetic trait known as the X-gene, Spidey villains, his rogues gallery and unsettling new incarnations waiting in the shadows.

Midnight Spider-Man #4 written by Johnson, illustrated by ScieTronc and featuring a cover by Steve Beach, the issue swings into action on 13 January.

New York City is locking its doors against the mysterious menace known as Spider-Man. But one outcast cop is determined to uncover the truth behind the Parker Incident. Meanwhile, the devil has been busy behind the scenes, with the birth of the world’s second synthetic mutant adding another twist to the web of horrors.

Midnight Fantastic Four #4 written by Percy, illustrated by Marcelo Ferreira and featuring a cover by Kev Walker, the issue arrives on 20 January.

The comic returns from the monolith in the Jornada del Muerto desert, a cosmic artifact and the gateway to a hidden world, with no memory of what happened and no record of their experience. Worse, their minds and bodies are behaving strangely, with a mysterious cosmic artefact potentially holding the key to their unsettling transformation.

With the Midnight universe continuing to expand, Marvel is keeping its main covers under wraps while promising more familiar faces with frightening new twists. For these heroes, the night is only getting darker.
