After enthralling the audience in movies and television series, slowly comics are now planning to capture the OTT/VOD (Over the top/Video on demand) platform as well. Marvel’s Luke Cage will now be appearing in Netflix’s four series package.
Two new members have been added recently to this series. Mahershala Ali (House Of Cards, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay) has landed the role of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in the third series in Marvel’s four-series package for Netflix. A Harlem nightclub owner, Stokes will become an unexpected foe in Luke’s life when Stokes’ criminal activities threaten Luke’s world.
Along with Stokes, Marvel’s Mercedes “Misty” Knight, the police officer-turned-superhero, will be making her live-action debut on Netflix’s Luke Cage. Deadline reported, Simone Missick will be seen starring opposite Mike Colter. Misty is a highly-skilled martial artist who is proficient in hand-to-hand combat and has near perfect aim. Her bionic arm made of Vibranium is super-strong, giving her a vice-like grip, but because the rest of her body is ordinary she does have limitations as to how much she can lift.
In Luke Cage, Mike Colter plays Cage, a wrongly accused man who, granted super strength by a sabotaged experiment, escapes prison to become a superhero for hire. Alfre Woodard as Minetta and Theo Rossi as Shades Alvarez also star along with Rosario Dawson, who will reprise her role as Claire Temple from Netflix’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones.
Cheo Hodari Coker serves as executive producer and showrunner on the series, produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
Luke Cage is filming in NYC now, for a likely 2016 release.
