DC Comics has been entertaining the audience for a long time with its comic, movies and television series. On the television front, we have seen shows like Wonder Woman, Shazam!, Superman, Batman and many more in the past. But what’s catching the eyes of the audience these days are more recent shows like Arrow and Flash. When Supergirl was recently announced it was expected to get aired on CW channel as Arrow and Flash were already doing good for the channel passed down the offer and CBS which is CW’s sister network got the opportunity to air it.
With the upcoming TV show, Legends of Tomorrow which will be aired on CW, CW’s president Mark Pedowitz stated that he does not intend to turn CW into a DC Comics Network. “There is no intention, at this point, to spin anything else off,” he said, as reported by the LA Times.
Once Legends of Tomorrow starts airing on CW then about 40 per cent of the CW’s schedule would be DC content with shows like Arrow, Flash and also the separate, Vertigo based iZombie. At the same time Pedowitz expressed his regrets over passing on the Supergirl show. He also said that he was open for crossovers of the two networks: CBS and CW though CBS chairman Nina Tassler didn’t seem keen for it. “I leave that to Greg Berlanti (Supergirl/Arrow/Flash executive producer) if they can make it work,” Pedowitz said.
With the spinoff order, The CW will have four Comics-inspired series on its roster for 2015-16, including the recently renewed iZombie. DC will have fare on three of the five broadcast networks, with Gotham also renewed at Fox, which is eyeing a series pickup for the comic book powerhouse’s Lucifer take.
As for future plans, CW has no plans for a new DC series or spin off from an existing one targeted for next season. Further plans depend on how does Legends of Tomorrow fare in ratings.
