‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ will target a sizable Chinese speaking audience with redubbing

The new year is going to kick-off with a bang next January as the kung fu master Po is all set to break box-office records (…and a few bones too along the way). However the tent pole franchise has hit turbulent waters recently with Mads Mikkelsen, who was signed on as the baddie has called it quits.

There have been rumors going around that JK Simmons could step into his shoes, but the DreamWorks film makers will take that call of whether Simmons comes on board as the villain or could essay a new character altogether for the animated flick.

Director Jennifer Yuh recently revealed a few intricate details about the franchise. Yuh said that the studio would be collaborating with its China department, Oriental DreamWorks for the third outing of the hit franchise. The idea is to draw more Chinese audiences to throng theatres across the country and also promote the animation sector enormously.

She further informed that one of the elements that Kung Fu Panda 3 makers would be incorporating is the reanimation of all lip syncing to be able to match Chinese dubbing. This will make it easier for Chinese voices to match their lip syncing with the characters. According to reports, the two version of the latest movie from the franchise would be pretty much alike. The makers are also tinkering with the idea of rewriting the script to make some jokes funnier when spoken in Chinese.

The collaboration of DreamWorks and its Chinese arm will definitely increase (if not double) the audience of the movie. The best example of the power of the Chinese box-office would be last year’s tent pole release Transformers: Age of Extinction.
