Kevin Smith to have a playdate with ‘The Flash’

DC universe superhero that’s been attracting audiences with his hit television series, Barry Allen aka The Flash will soon witness a small exciting change. During the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Sunday, 10 January, The CW announced that Kevin Smith will be directing an upcoming episode of The Flash.

Apart from being a comic book writer, author and comedian, Smith is also a filmmaker, actor and public speaker. Earlier he has worked on few Green Arrow as well as Preacher comic issues along with other DC/Marvel titles. Being a filmmaker adds on to his advantage while directing this episode as he will be having knowledge of how to make a successful show.

How did this association take place? Smith’s agent called up The Flash’s executive producer Andrew Kreisberg and this is how the conversation took place says Kreisberg to EW, “I literally got a phone call from his agent saying, ‘Kevin Smith’s favorite show is The Flash’ and was there an episode for him and the answer was ‘yes.’ It was really that simple.

I know what a fan he is. I’m such a huge fan of his work. And it was funny because I just watched The Death of Superman Lives, it was serendipitous having him in my head again. I loved the movie Dogma and the show Reaper too, which he directed the pilot for. And obviously there’s a good deal of publicity that comes with this and as responsible executive producers we have to look at that. But we would never look at that at the expense of our own show. Knowing the scrutiny that the episode is going to be under, I know he’s going to bring it to his fullest.”

Shortly after the announcement, Smith took to Twitter and in his comical manner thanked the producers of the show and The CW for the ‘playdate.’

Smith currently stars on AMC’s reality series Comic Book Men will helm a Season 2 episode, which is set to air in May.
