JFX, one of the UK’s leading boutique VFX studios, announced the expansion of its senior leadership team with the appointment of Matt Burn and Carl Godwin-Alvarez as creative technology supervisor and VFX supervisor, respectively, on 20 October 2026. The appointments follow a period of continued growth for the company and demonstrate the studio’s commitment to investing in top creative talent, alongside emerging technologies to create a robust and flexible infrastructure.

Burn joins JFX as creative technology supervisor, bringing over 20 years of post-production, CG, and VFX experience to the team.

Burn said on his appointment: “Working alongside a forward-thinking group of exceptionally talented people and being part of a team that is embracing how emerging technology can enhance our craft is incredibly important to me. While JFX is a relatively young studio, the crew brings a wealth of industry experience, passion and creative skill that informs every single project we work on. It’s exciting to be part of that, and to help shape how new technology can become a meaningful part of the creative process.”

More recently, Burn has focused on hands-on work with emerging generative tools across live projects.

In the newly created role, Burn will draw on his understanding of the ever-growing range of available tools to improve the creative process, implementing workflows that simplify and streamline the pipeline.

He spent 17 years as a CG artist and supervisor at Absolute Post, before joining Realtime (a UK-based CGI animation and VFX company) as CG supervisor, overseeing VFX on The Winter King and Lockerbie: A Search for Truth. In 2025.

Godwin-Alvarez joins following a 13-year tenure at Absolute Post (a London-based independent creative studio). Joining JFX’s roster of supervisors, Godwin-Alvarez brings a pragmatic approach to translating a client’s creative brief into actionable steps a team can execute, building workflows that let artists concentrate on creating rather than technical problem-solving. Godwin-Alvarez’s credits include MobLand, The Buccaneers, and The Rig.

Godwin-Alvarez added: “Being part of the JFX journey offers the opportunity to work alongside such a talented, ambitious and collaborative team, while having the creative freedom to help shape both the company and the work we do. I’m excited to bring my own experience and ideas to the team, but equally, I’m looking forward to learning from the people around me and continuing to grow creatively and professionally.”

The appointments come at a pivotal point for JFX, 18 months on from its April 2025 launch. The studio’s managing director Phil Greenlow, commented on the appointments: “JFX prides itself on its strong artistic culture, and every hire we make is instrumental in maintaining that. It is with enormous esteem we welcome Matt and Carl to the team. Their values and ambitions perfectly align with the company’s mission, while their years of experience and unrivalled skill sets further strengthen JFX, not only in the creative solutions we offer our clients, but in making our studio as resilient and streamlined as possible.”
