With new partnerships come new content and new business ventures that bring new opportunities. At the Asia TV Forum (ATF) high level executives discuss on how they benefit from this alliance with a bigger budget, production skills enhancement and exploration of new territories.
A panel consisting of Armoza Formats Israel founder and CEO Avi Armoza; 3C Media VP content strategy & development Shirley Shihui Cheng; Small World International Format Television US president Tim Crescenti; FUJI Television Network, Japan general producer, worldwide production & sales So Fujinuma and ZRTV China deputy head of strategic development TaoYan; with the session being helmed by OpiconMedia South Korea CEO Ryan JH Lee saw the executives discuss on ‘The power of alliance- exporting Asia’s format globally’.
Avi started off by stating that partnerships are the way ahead for Asian content producers, as it would not only benefit in managing finances but also help in getting better content ideas for newer and improved series or short films. Shirley agreed to the notion and added that just like how the language barrier was being overcome by using translators during the session, similarly any kind of language barriers can also be resolved through means of partnerships.
“According to my personal experience the Asian market is yet to evolve completely and bring more ground-breaking content that can redefine the content consumed in this part of the world, though Korean content has struck a chord with the world and we are still exploring more such content from this region,” Tim added.
Avi went on to state that co-production will also give rise to more creativity with less financial pressure and higher opportunity to compliment each other’s strengths while making up for the individual weaknesses.
“Apart from just forming partnerships, what’s also important is the fact that the culture and practices of the respective countries must be taken into consideration and there should not be any pot shots taken under the guise of creativity,” expressed Tao.
Finally the panel agreed on the fact that co-productions will go a long way in bringing many more innovative shows from this continent.
