For those who have been following Fox’s Gotham, starring Ben Mckenzie as the incorruptible cop, Jim Gordon would know that the second season has kicked off amazingly well inter-connecting the dots between the characters of the show. The first season that premiered in September 2014 in its 22 episode run showed great potential from the DC Comics’ lore as it chronicled the tales of characters in Gotham city, the Dark Knight’s lair. In spite of the show’s greatly applauded gothic and dark setting shown on-screen, the first season failed to grasp the attention of the viewers with a scattered and a confused plot bouncing off Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon while filling in more and more characters with each episode.
However it seems the makers have learnt well from their mistakes and the pre-Batman Gotham with the second season (premiered on January 17, 2015) tagged as ‘Rise of the Villains’ is unleashing a horde of super baddies in Gotham city giving our Jim a hard time. With almost 7 episodes released, the show is already making headlines with new casting announcements. After recently roping in House of Cards veteran Nathan Darrow as the iconic Mr. Freeze, reports confirm another sinister villain in the series, Hugo Strange.
BD Wong who was last seen in the mega-grosser Jurassic World (2015) and Focus (2015) has been casted as Hugo Strange, the brilliant psychiatrist hired in the show to run Gotham’s mad house, Arkham Asylum. The show recently introduced the Indian Hill facility and who better to run it than Hugo Strange. Revealing exclusively to comicbook.com, Fox hinted that, Hugo Strange would harbor a dark secret. Starting innocently enough, and working to rehabilitate the villains of Gotham City, BD Wong’s Hugo Strange would eventually go on to be revealed as the man behind Indian Hill and another sinister threat to the city.
Gotham Season 2 – Rise of the Villains is so far steering the right path and digging deeper into the DC Comic house to bring in new characters on the show. As per comic lore, Hugo Strange is one of Batman’s recurring supervillains is also the first villain to deduce Batman’s true identity. So far our young Bruce Wayne played by David Mazouz needn’t worry about that for Gotham is far from bringing the Dark Knight to the small-screen.
Armed with a genius level intellect and a master in psychology, chemistry and biology, Hugo Strange is a fatal mix of evil and intelligence capable of running deep on the show and with BD Wong roped in for the role, Gotham is indeed notching up their scale of productions where the crime-infested Gotham City is set to play a muse to the villains’ act.
