Hi-Rez Studios made a mark in the gaming/eSports sphere with its third-person MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena), Smite and in addition to that they have recently taken their upcoming multiplayer fantasy-shooter Paladins into open beta.
While the company has other titles to their name, Smite was especially popular and it seems that the company would be focusing their next IP based on the same universe and elements. While the development on both Smite and Paladins continue, Hi-Rez Studios has just announced Smite Tactics, a turn-based strategy game based in the Smite realm itself. You control familiar gods and mythological beings from different pantheons and create your own cavalry depending on the cards you set up.
Not much about the game has been revealed yet apart from some details like there would be a one on one PVP (player vs player) mode and also “various adventure modes” set up against computer controlled enemies. As mentioned above, the set of cards you have will possibly decide the composition of your army. Some of the already familiar gods from Smite can be seen in the reveal video using known abilities like Ymir using his frost breath, thus each god will retain some or probably all their unique abilities.
The game is being built on Unreal 4 Engine, however it is not clear that on what platforms would the game be launched on, but it was mentioned that the game has been designed to play with a keyboard and a mouse or even a controller, thus PC would definitely be one of the platforms. The closed beta of the game begins later this year and the registrations are underway on the official site.
