God of War’s last game from franchise came out in 2013 and since then it has been constantly talked about as to where is the franchise headed next after Kratos killed all the Greek Gods in the first three games. But now, a recent tease from industry insider, Shinobi602, came out about the concept images from the next potential God of War series game.
Shortly after Shinobi’s message, a website NerdLeaks gained access to a wealth of images by breaking into an artist’s website who was working on the game. After the leak came into public attention both the NerdLeaks website and the Imgur album which was used to repost the images have been taken down. But the content is available on NeoGAF – with the all the first draft images of game’s setting, features, and even showcases a bearded, trouser-wearing, axe-wielding take on Kratos.
The franchise developed by Sony’s Santa Monica studio, artist’s website suggest that the next title in the God of War series will abandon ancient Greek myth for a Norse setting – but may still feature a version of Kratos as the protagonist, or a protagonist whose name is Kratos .
After, NerdLeaks revealed the images Shinobi expressed regret for the tease in the same NeoGAF thread. Sony is yet to issue a statement about the leaks but the game has been in development since 2014 when creative director Cory Barlog confirmed the team was in early stages of the game. He hinted that the game was not a sequel but rather a reboot with an all together a new setting for the Kratos to express his rage.
Norse mythology will be an exciting prospect for Sony to explore with a lot of interesting characters and Gods like Odin, Thor, Loki and Ymir all providing an equal opponent to Kratos. Some websites also claim that Kratos will visit Alfheim and Vanaheimr, two of the Nine Worlds of Norse mythology. It also suggests that Kratos will be visiting one or more prisons – and that green, life-restoring health runestones have been identified.
The “God of War” franchise has been one of the most lucrative for PlayStation and console exclusivity has brought in a lot of numbers to the console for the game. An engaging storyline, innovative gameplay and the character of Kratos have been the drawing point for the console and have become one of the most recognised games of all time.
