HBO has released the first teaser for Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. The series had started filming months ago and it will debut sometime in 2022.
House of the Dragon teaser expounds on several Targaryens and offers a sneak peak into how they came into power. The prequel is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and it will be about the Targaryens and their rise and fall from power.
House of the Dragon is created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who also serve as co-showrunners. Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik is an executive producer on the series and he is expected to direct several episodes in the first season. The show was announced two years ago and is centred on George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood.
The House of the Dragon trailer doesn’t give out much about the show’s plot beats, but does give a glimpse of its impressive cast: actors including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Sonoya Mizuno, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, and Olivia Cooke are all on board with sword fighting and flying dragons.
Baked FX, Blue Bolt, Imagen Digital, Elastic Gradient Effects, Iloura, Image Engine, Look Effects, MPC, Mackevision, Peanuts, Pixomondo, Rhythm and Hues, Rising Sun Pictures, Rodeo FXScanline, SpinVFX and Weta Digital have been associated with the franchise for a long time. However it is not revealed as to which studios will be working on its VFX for this prequel.
House of the Dragon will be available on HBO Max in 2022. It is not announced whether the prequel will be shown via Disney Plus Hotstar in India, akin to Game of Thrones.
