Bilal: A New Breed of Hero, a 3D computer-animated action-adventure drama film produced by Barajoun Entertainment of Dubai, will premiere at the second edition of Animation Day in Cannes on 18 May.
The Animation Day will be marked by talks, panel discussions, animation screenings and networking events taking place at the Palais des Festivals and the Salon de Renaissance.
Bilal: A New Breed of Hero depicts the life of Bilal in Rabahand and is the first feature-length animated film from the Dubai-based Barajoun. The film has been directed by Khurram H Alavi along with Ayram Jamal who has written the story and screenplay and also produced the film.
The film has also been selected for Annecy 2016, the biggest Animation Market and Animated Film Festival in the world. The movie is set for worldwide release in autumn this year 2016.
There will be discussion on ‘VR: Immersive Experiences’ and ‘VR: what’s the financial model’ with Melange VR expert Michel Reilhac who is the VR curator for Marché du Film Pavillon, and Laurie Gordon who is director of Montreal International Animation Film Festival (18 to 21 August).
Screening of Bilal on Animation Day at Cannes Discoveries will be followed by a Q&A with the directors and a networking reception.
The day will feature a short selection of Work in progress – demo reels with finished films or hot projects presented by the filmmakers.
A discussion on ‘Animation that Matters and Inspires’ will be held with AQA president Marie-Claude Beauchamp who is the CEO Producer of CarpeDiem Film & TV; Barajoun Entertainment director producer Ayman Jamal and Montreal International Animation Film Festival Festival director Laurie Gordon.
There will be a launch function for the Ryan Larkin Foundation with introduction by Laurie Gordon and a presentation of PAB ‘s art (animation film posters reinterpreted by Nomad street artist PAB).
The day will conclude with Animation Day in Cannes Accolades: Awards and Recalls.
Animation Awards Encore: Accolades will be offered to winners in animation categories at recent festivals at Sundance, Rotterdam, Clermont Ferrand, Houston WorldFest, Mecal and film institutions including the European Film Awards, the Oscars, Cesar Awards, BAFTA and the Golden Trailer Awards.
Accolades and prizes will be presented by the European Film Academy director Marion Doering; Horyou.com CEO founder Yonathan Parienti, and Marie-Claude Beauchamp.
This will be followed by screening of trailers from the winners, followed by networking sessions.
