From Greek Gods to gothic metal: 10 toons turning up the heat at Mipcom

Cannes is about to get a serious animation makeover, with ten fresh-to-market toons bringing everything from Greek Gods and gothic metal to magical witches and beachside slapstick to Mipcom 2026.

The global content market returns to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, a modern convention, event, and cultural center best known as the main venue for the world-famous Cannes Film Festival, from 12 to 15 October, and animation is ready to steal the spotlight. Here are 10 titles looking to make a splash with buyers, distributors and production partners.

Magic Light Pictures, an Oscar-nominated and Bafta-winning British independent film and television production and brand licensing company based in London, is bringing The Baddies, a 3D family special based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s book. A troll, ghost and witch discover that their latest target, a little girl, may be more than a match for their mischief. Produced by Barney Goodland and Martin Pope, the 30-minute special is set for December 2026.

Studio 100 International, a leading global production, distribution, and licensing company based in Munich, Germany, that specialises in children’s and family entertainment, is turning Greek mythology on its head with Chill Out, Zeus!, 52 episodes of 12-minute CG comedy-adventure for six- to 12-year-olds. Zeus may rule Olympus, but keeping his temper in check is another story. His divine offspring Aphrodite, Athena, Heracles and Hermes step in to restore balance and spark plenty of mythological mayhem.

Heavy metal meets family chaos in Belzebubs, the 2D comedy based on JP Ahonen’s popular webcomic. Produced by Pyjama Films with Movimenti Production and Mago Productions, the 13 episodes of  22-minute series follows metalhead dad Sløth as he attempts to juggle band ambitions with his decidedly unconventional family. Banijay Kids & Family is shopping the series, with delivery slated for October 2026.

BBC Studios Kids & Family is bringing mystery, action and a few very strange objects to the table with Vanishing Point. The 2D series follows four teenagers whose town is invaded by everyday objects with bizarre powers. Produced with Watch Next Media and Kavaleer Productions, the show targets audiences aged eight and above.

Magic, dragons and ancient relics collide in Magic Lilly, a CG reboot of the Lilly the Witch franchise. The 26 episodes of 22-minute series from The Magic Lilly Company, Influx Animation and DeAPlaneta Entertainment follows Lilly as she travels from feudal Japan to the Egyptian pyramids while battling dark forces. Josh Hamilton serves as main writer, with delivery planned for the fourth quarter of 2027.

Boat Rocker Studios and Industrial Brothers, a full-service animation studio based in Toronto, Canada, that creates and produces original children’s entertainment content, are putting childhood emotions centre stage with Harlo. The 2D preschool series follows a cautious five-and-a-half-year-old bunny navigating everyday adventures with his single dad and best friends. Blending comedy with emotionally intelligent storytelling, the 52 episodes of 11-minute series explores childhood anxiety with warmth and humour, with delivery scheduled for 2027.

Mediawan Kids & Family, a major European production and distribution division dedicated to children’s and family entertainment, is serving up a futuristic fight for freedom with Atta Slam. Created by Nat Yoswatananont, the 26 episodes of  22-minute CG series follows Lui, who is shut out of an elite academy before being recruited into an underground league. A hologram-powered ball-and-paddle game becomes the unlikely spark for a rebellion against a corporation that crushed his family.

Xilam Animation is diving back into the deep end with seasons five and six of Zig & Sharko, a French animated slapstick comedy television series, Season five heads to a beach resort, while season six follows Marina on a surfing road trip. The long-running 2D slapstick hit, which celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2025, boasts more than 39 million YouTube subscribers and 23 billion views across its dedicated global channels.

Cake, a prominent UK-based kids and family entertainment distribution company, is bringing a little curiosity and a very big friend to Cannes with Luce and the Rock. The 2D preschool series follows Luce and her giant Rock as they explore the colourful Lovely Land, meet new creatures and discover different perspectives. Based on the multi-award-winning short film, the series comprises 35 episodes of seven-minute episodes and two 14-minute specials, with delivery scheduled between January and July 2027.

WildBrain, a Canadian media and animation company, is giving a classic franchise a fresh CG makeover with Strawberry Shortcake’s Bake Shop. The 26 episodes of  three-minute series brings Strawberry and her Berry Besties back to Berryville for bite-sized stories about friendship, kindness and community with eight original songs baked into the mix.

From mythological mayhem and metalhead families to magical adventures and nostalgic reboots, Mipcom 2026 is serving up a colourful animation buffet. Cannes, consider the toon stakes officially raised.
