Though he’s observed in cameos, he’s no less than a hero. The guy who bestowed the world with some of the best comic book superheroes like Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, Thor, the X-Men will finally be seen in a superhero avatar. Yes, we are talking about Stan Lee who is about to become an action hero.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has acquired Stan Lee’s life rights and is planning to make Lee the hero of an action-adventure movie set in the 1970s. The team behind Twilight, The Maze Runner, and the upcoming Power Rangers reboot Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are set produce this untitled film. Last year, we witnessed the launch of Lee’s autobiography, “Amazing Fantastic Incredible” which was seen in a graphic novel format.
However, this film won’t be a biopic. According to the producers, they’re setting the tone as something akin to Kingsman: The Secret Service and Roger Moore’s James Bond movies. So we can expect to observe some witty one-liners with Stan Lee’s alter ego donning the role of a spy (maybe) who’s competent and flirtatious.
20th Century Fox has made films based on characters made by Lee like the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Lee began his career with wartime Timely Comics. Since Lee’s dream was to write the “great American novel,” and he was considering quitting when his wife, whom he considers the great love of his life, convinced him to give the comics one last shot. Thus, in his 40s, Lee co-created The Fantastic Four, which launched the Marvel Age of comics. Lee, mostly with artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko made comic book history with Fantastic Four #1, and introduced hero after hero in Hulk, Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men and more.
Lee and Gil Champion, Lee’s partner at POW! Entertainment, will executive produce the project. The Stan Lee action-adventure film is still without a writer.
