Five Nights at Freddy’s comes to theatres near you

Scott Cawthon’s survival horror game Five Nights at Freddy’sis being made in a film. The Hollywood Reporter reports, Warner Bros. has bought rights to Five Nights at Freddy’s  adapting the horror game series into a feature film. The studio is also developing a movie based on Mahjong’s indie smash hit game, Minecraft.

Producer Seth Grahame-Smith says the the indie horror game will turn into an “insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie.” The game takes place in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-E-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night. The goal of the game is survive a night locked inside, knowing that a furry death machine might jump out of the dark at any moment.

The original point and click horror game was released on Steam in 2014, and was later ported to Android and iOS. The game’s success on both on PC and on mobile saw a pair of sequels coming up in just six months. All three Five Nights at Freddy’s games are in iTunes’ top ten paid apps. Warner Bros.’s adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s is reportedly on the hunt for a writer.
