The day had dawned for the AVGC industry of Karnataka majorly Bengaluru to meet, interact and exchange thoughts, ideas and experiences as the ABAI Fest and KAVGC Summit 2016 commenced on 16 April, 2016.
Hosted at The Lalit Ashok hotel, Bengaluru, the first day of the fest began with the input from the Firefly Creative Studio, VFX Supervisor, Sanath PC about the visual effects work in Bollywood VFX blockbuster Baahubali. Explaining the pre visualisation process in the making of the film, Sanath explained the whole design and ideation process for the film. Each character of the iconic film, every background and cultural reference used portrayed the immense research work that went into the creation of Baahubali.
The Samsung Galaxy for Gaming and Samsung VR Gear presentation along with the session on Virtual Reality (VR) as the next storytelling platform added the gaming fever to the technology driven crowd.
When you think of Startup in India, you immediately think of Bengaluru as a catalyst for growth. And, a deep insight into the story of LabinApp, a tech oriented start up, conveyed a pool of information to computer graphics enthusiasts.
Gaming and technology walk in hand. But, does Gaming and creativity walk together? Well, Moon Frog Labs director Mark Skaggs explained the creative and technical art used for creating hit games as he has been a cornerstone in the creation of games like FarmVille, CityVille and so on. Not only games, but even core technical aspects like rendering on Google Cloud platform was covered to educate the audience about the importance and integration of Google followed by an input in painting shapes and motion with codes.
Diving deep into the creativity of animation, Walt Disney Animation Studios technical director Avneet Kaur touched upon the minute detailing of fur creation and simulation in the animated film Zootopia.
After an in depth dive into animation, VFX took the lead as NYVFXWAALA, VFX Supervisor Prasad Sutar displayed the entire VFX reel and extensive work on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Lighting in VFX was also touched upon as the sessions concluded for the day.
Throughout the day, screenings enthralled the audience as it gave a perfect start to the fest with the SIGGRAPH Asia screening, followed by Annecy Film Festival best shows, Mune: The Guardian of the Moon, Shelley Page’s Eye Candy Show and finally the phenomenal screening of award winning film Adama and The Little Prince. The audience witnessed content on the big screen; content which has not been or probably could not be accessed easily.
The first day of ABAI fest seemed quite fruitful in terms of the live contests organised for both students and professionals including the real time Hackathon competition. All in all, ABAI fest and KAVGC Summit 2016 was bigger and better right on the first day.
