The Best Animated Frames [BAF] Awards was started in 2004 by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry [FICCI] to recognise and honour students and professionals in the field of Animation. This first ever Animation Awards in India grew over the years to encompass awards not only in animation, but also in the visual effects (VFX) and gaming fields. The contest now receives top-notch entries from across the globe. In fact, the last BAF Awards held in March 2014 received 400 entries from across 10 countries.
The nominees for the 12th edition of BAF Awards have been revealed and boast of some really great work. There are in all 24 categories in this edition’s BAF Awards, which is divided into four for gaming, six for VFX and a whooping 14 categories for animation.
Some of the big animation studios that have managed to make the cut in the advertising category are: Studio Eeksaurus Production with 3 nominations and FutureWorks Integrated Advertising. In the animated TV episode category Green Gold Animation has 2 nominations whereas Blue Pixel Animation studio is the only competition. In the animation theatrical category there are three nominees in all; Swamy Ayyappan by Toonz Animation India, Kochadaiiyan from Eros International media and Mighty Raju Rio Calling from Green Gold Animation.
On the gaming front the studios that have been nominated include: Reliance Games, Yellow Monkey Studios, Dumadu Games, Ubisoft and 99Games Online across the three categories. Among the VFX studios/people that have earned a spot in the nominee list are Anibrain Digital Technologies for Roar, Redchillies.vfx for Happy New Year and Srinivas Mohan for I.
The awards night will take place on 25 March, 2015 at Hotel Renaissance, Powai, Mumbai; it’s certainly going to be a night of celebration for the AVGC fraternity and a night to remember for all the awardees.
