Electronic Sports Federation of India (ESFI) will be sending a team to the 8th e-Sports World Championship Jakarta 2016 (World Championship) organised by International e-Sports Federation (IeSF). The World Championship will have 500 eSports athletes from 37 countries, 207 participants from 15 countries of Asia (including India), 169 participants from 14 countries of Europe, 39 participants from 3 countries of America, 23 participants from 2 countries of Oceania, and 41 participants from 3 countries of Africa.
Game Titles for this year are League of Legends (LoL), Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Hearthstone(HS).
“India will be participating in the Hearthstone Championship and will be represented by Tirth Hiren Mehta aka “gcttirth”, who has been participating in various international events and has recently returned from Thailand Major which leads to the one million dollar Championship to be held during Blizzcon,” said Lokesh Suji of eSports Federation of India.
The e-Sports World Championship is the only international e-Sports competition based on nationality. This year’s World Championship will be held together with 6th edition of TAFISA (The Association for International Sport for All). IeSF plans to portray, during the World Championship, the true values of e-Sports to flourish as content for sports for all and let all younger generation to enjoy. Becoming a part of sport for all will also be of relevance in the recognition process of SportAccord and IOC (the process has already been initiated this year).
The 8th e-Sports World Championships 2016 will be held from 6 to 9 of October, in Ancol Beach Auditorium, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Further adding Lokesh Suji said that of late India has created history in various new categories of Sports like badminton and wresting during Olympics; Javelin throw and high jump during Paralympics, and we are confident “gcttirth” will get a medal for eSports and make India Proud.
