DreamWorks Animation is all set to accomplish its ‘dream’ of entering the Asian television market by launching its first ever brand new kids and family broadcast channel in Thailand on Saturday, 1 August 2015 followed by a fully dubbed Thai version in HD in September.
It will be the animation studio’s first dedicated linear TV channel in the world which was made possible by a deal with local pay TV operator CTH and HBO Asia. DWA shall be initially including all its prime original series like All Hail King Julien, starring the world’s biggest party animal from the hugely successful Madagascar films, and The Adventures of Puss in Boots, featuring the sword-fighting feline fortune-hunter made famous from the Shrek franchise.
“DreamWorks is the home of great animation and storytelling and we are excited to bring our content all together in one amazing place and across every platform imaginable. The channel is hosted by our best known characters and available for kids and their families to watch wherever and whenever they want,” said International TV & DreamWorks Classics, co-head, Eric Ellenbogen.
Last December while Speaking exclusively to AnimationXpress.com when DWA had announced their plans of penetrating into the Asian market, DreamWorks Classics, EVP of International Television, Chloe van den Berg had explained the thought behind venturing into Asia first, “Audiences in the region have always embraced our content and with no DreamWorks Channel content currently in the territory, Asia is the perfect market for our first 24/7 outlet.” Even as the number of kids’ channels is on the rise, Chloe had stated that “the deal complements the company’s expanding television production and distribution initiatives, and represents an important step in the company’s strategy to distribute its TV content to as many viewers, in as many regions, and in as many ways as possible.”
DWA is also a partner and the creative lead in Oriental DreamWorks, a mainland China investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars that is already in production on the Kung Fu Panda 3 feature film. It has alongside announced plans to produce shows for TV and the web.
