The motion picture arm of the leading television production house in the country is all set to enthrall its viewers with not just spectacular visuals but also heart-thumping sound.
In a major announcement made today, Dolby Laboratories and Balaji Motion Pictures have formed a strategic alliance, through which a few of the titles from the production house – starting with Azhar (Mohammad Azharuddin’s biopic) – will be using Dolby Atmos for the sound mixing of the feature films.
Speaking on the collaboration, Balaji Motion Pictures joint MD Ekta Kapoor says: “As a producer, I truly believe there is a lot more that I can offer to viewers and with this particular collaboration we will bring cutting-edge content in the finest sound quality that is available in the market.”
Since April 2012, when Dolby Atmos first got introduced in the industry, the technology has been embraced by all the major Hollywood studios, winning 23 Academy Awards for the sound mixers using the technology and been installed in over 900 screens across 40 countries and 250 exhibitor partners.
“Dolby has shared a great relationship with Balaji ever since it pioneered in bringing Dolby Surround sound mixing in its TV series and this relationship is only growing stronger with this collaboration. With the range of upcoming Dolby Atmos titles hitting the screens, we are confident that cinematic storytelling will be taken to a whole new level in the coming years,” explains Dolby Laoratories senior regional director – India, SEA, ANZ – Pankaj Kedia.
On being probed if Balaji Motion Pictures will be a little generous in spending more on quality sound for its films, Ekta reveals: “I truly believe that Indian movies haven’t given much impetus on sound as against Hollywood. I still remember being blown away on watching Mission Impossible and I want to bring that kind of quality sound to my films, if that comes at a price… I am more than willing to loosen up my purse for it.”
