A new cinema is launching in Thrissur, Kerala which will be powered by Dolby Laboratories’s Dolby Atmos screen. D Cinemaas is owned by actor and producer Dileep, a superstar of the Malayalam cinema.
Dolby Atmos will be used to make audiences feel as if they are in the movie and not just watching it.
Commenting on the launch, Dileep said, “We are proud to work with Dolby to implement the groundbreaking Dolby Atmos sound technology for the first time in the city, marking yet another milestone for us as we continue to bring the most innovative cinema technologies to our patrons. I strongly believe that Dolby Atmos will prove to be one of the biggest attractions for the cinema audiences and that the technology will see a mass acceptance in the Malayalam cinema industry in the coming time, including my upcoming movies.”
Dolby Laboratories marketing director Ashim Mathur said, “With Dolby Atmos, audiences are actually experiencing the film and not merely watching it. We are very excited to work with D Cinemaas to bring what we hope is the ultimate cinematic experience to moviegoers in Chalakkudy, Thrissur.”
Dolby Atmos has received technical achievement awards from both the Hollywood Post Alliance and the Cinema Audio Society. As the inventors of the only object-based audio format used in the cinema today, Dolby is working closely with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers in driving adoption of standards for object-based audio.
