Disney has made a wild entry into the jungle as its two upcoming live action feature films The Jungle BooK and Pete’s Dragon are set to release in its pipeline. Recently, the entertainment conglomerate released the teaser for its upcoming Pete’s Dragon which seems to be a mix of CGI fantasy and extensive live action drama.
Directed by David Lowery and written by Toby Halbrooks and Lowery, the film is a remake of the 1977 musical film of the same name and the same production house. Based on a short story by S.S. Field and Seton I. Miller, this upcoming adventure film features the story of a young protagonist orphan boy named Pete played by Oakes Fegley.
The teaser begins with the jungle setting to set the mood of a serious story and then goes on to introduce the protagonist climbing up a tree. It is quite possible to mistake the boy for ‘Mowgli’ as there are a number of similarities in the character and the setting. Going deep in the dense forests, the survival of the boy is debated by Grace Meacham, a forest range, played by Bryce Dallas Howard and Mr. Meacham played by Robert Redford.
The suspense element is well maintained till the end of the teaser for we can just witness chaos happening throughout and the boy often staring at something but nothing! That’s where the twist likes, just like the name of the film; an invisible dragon which is visible only to Pete takes an expansive flight at the end and baffles the audience by its humongous nature.
If the larger than life dragon Elliott is invisible and only visible to his friend Pete, definitely the little boy is bound to fall into tremendous trouble in a standard urban society. And the trailer ends on an unexplained note with just minimum introduction of the characters, with the story line still left quite unpredictable.
A creation of Disney and Whitaker Entertainment Production with WETA Digital delivering the visual effects and CGI sequences, Pete’s Dragon takes flight in theatres on 12 August, 2016.
