Disney has pulled the plug on third installment of Tron series. According The Hollywood Reporter, Joseph Kosinski was expected to be back at the director’s chair with Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund reprising their roles.
The studio says the production was never green-lit, but the website claims that the prep had been started and the shoot was to start in fall in Vancouver. Also, Jared Leto, who is set to play the Clown Prince of crime in the upcoming DC movie ‘Suicide Squad’, was offered a role in the movie but nothing on the offer and negotiations ever commenced.
Disney is betting big on the live-action movie front with movies like The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast currently in the pipeline. Also, the properties like Maleficent and Cinderella have done really well at the box office, though Tomorrowland has seen dwindling numbers at the box-office with the movie only a collecting a meager $33 million in week one, made on a budget of $180 million.
Disney has not indicated why this decision was taken considering the Tron: Legacy was a huge success but THR says that Tomorrowland’s outcome could be one of the reasons for executives at Disney to take such a decision.
